Alto clefs, anyone?
041. Goodbye

[Part 2 of 2. Enjoy.]

“Atem, close your eyes.”

“Why?”

“Just do it, okay. I’m holding your hand, I’ll make sure you don’t walk into anything.”

“…alright,”

For the next five minutes, Yusei led Atem through twists and turns and the occasional tear-stricken group of mourners. Finally, they climbed a set of stairs and Yusei loosened his grip on Atem’s hand.

“You can open your eyes now.” Yusei said solemnly.

Atem saw only the sunset tainting the azure sky. He looked down and saw a tombstone.

Yugi Moto
The King of Games
Son, Duelist, Husband, and Father

The Egyptian man fell to his knees at the sight of it. “How could this be? The last time I was here was not that long ago.”

“He worked with my father on the Ener-D Reactor in the Satellite. He made it out alive but with irreversible infections. He married a Tea Gardner. Their son, Dexter, is a friend of Leo and Luna’s.” Yusei answered.

Emotions, harsh and raw, crashed upon Atem as he recalled his time with his partner. He gave voice to each memory that crossed his mind regardless of its nature. Yusei met each story with an open ear and mind, responding accordingly.

Soon, Atem fell silent and wished Yugi the best in his Afterlife. He heard a rustle of foil and turned to Yusei, wondering what it was. The younger man had opened the Booster Pack he purchased earlier. He pulled out the five cards and scrutinised each one. He then chose one and set it atop Yugi’s tombstone. Atem blinked at glanced at the card. Kuriboh. He smiled and knelt again, putting his left foot in front of his right.

“Goodbye, aibou.”

[Yay! I really liked this one. :D Oh and, as explained by Grandpa in the first episode of the original series’ Egypt Arc, the Ancient Egyptians stood with their left foot in front of their right before their king. It was a sign of respect and devotion as the heart is on the left side. Happy Synchroshipping Saturday, everyone~!]
